Another mundane day in Cornwall and social media is awash with calls for more volunteers. (some are connected with disability) today is day which my own world is going to be a small. Been working over the weekend so half of my body wants to go on a futuristic mission to save the world and the half wants to stay away from the limelight and stay sat with a cup of tea and have the tape stuck in the pop hits of eternity.
The jobcentre has now decided to call my autism a condition and not a disability. The written evidence done by speech therapists and assessors of autism doesn’t match this assumption. As normal the DWP has got it wrong. On the outside it’s doesn’t matter but inside it does because it implies like it’s all my fault and somehow if a turned a switched on inside my brain then I all of my impairments would magically go away .
Again the DWP you are cruelly and blatantly wrong. Disability needs much more then volunteers (in Cornwall volunteers will be in short supply as you can’t survive and volunteer at the same time) it needs superheroes that are willing to confront prejudice and minds that are tragically misinformed at what a disability actually looks like in 2019.
It all the shades of grey ,yellow and Scarlett indestructible red and all the marvellous diversity of mankind . To be a defender of life and drive a squad car that is powered by compassion.
